Once upon a time

August 27, 2018

I stumbled across Ana White plans on Pinterest an decided I wanted to build a buffet for the dining room. Having zero woodworking experience my husband kindly suggested that perhaps I should start with a bird house and see how it went. That's not really me, I didn't need a bird house and I was desperately trying to keep the crows out of my yard. I started out pretty simple and made a vegetable garden bed and a height ruler for my oldest and moved on to something a bit more exciting.

I decided to build Ana White's preschool picnic table. You can find the plans here.

I do not have many pictures from the build other than my cute helper who came in at the end to help me paint the table a robin's egg blue. My background is in commercial interior design, and I am team Sherwin Williams all the way. Their paint is amazing. It has been almost 6 years since we painted the table, but I believe the color I used is called Rain.

This table was a great plan to dive right into, the cuts are simple straight or angled cuts and the screws can be pilot drilled and driven in straight. Kids picnic tables run about $100 and I easily built this one for about $25 in wood.

Five years, a cross country move, and another kid later, this table is still going strong! The littlest prefers purple, so we gave the table an update last summer.

Have you tried any Ana White plans? Happy building!
